23rd APRIL 2019

Billy Keenan crowned Vets Individual Champion for 2019.

He took the title when he beat Sean Mulhall by 2 Frames to Nil at Lindley Lib. on Tuesday afternoon.

The First Frame was decided on the Black Ball. However Keenan took the advantage in the Second; firstly when he wiped out the start difference of 23 points before scoring a run of 27 closely followed by a smaller one of 16. This gave him a fairly secure lead by the time the Colours were reached which he never surrendered; to win - and take the title for the first time.

Mobile website

I have started further developing the web site to cater for mobile phones.  It is now automatic.  This is a new venture and is limited to a few pages (as of today just the home page, league tables and the fixtures page).  As and when mobile pages are developed they will become available.  There are two menu touch areas at the top left and top right of the screen. If a mobile page is available it will be shown otherwise it will go to the standard web page.

On mobile pages adverts will appear from time to time. Touch the advert to be taken to the advertiser's web page (on another tab) if it exists.  Touch the  to dismiss the advert.

If you have problems or comments please use the "Contact Us" page to let me know.  Be sure to include the make and model of the 'phone, and if possible the type of web browser (e.g. Chrome, Safari, native to the phone) that was used.

21st March 2019

The committee, after careful deliberation, have decided that the points deduction in respect of Marden Social failing to attend the November meeting should stand. The 4 point deduction has, therefore, been re-instated.

"Tagged" players handicap changes

You may have noticed several instances of players having a strange handicap applied by the system recently, I am afraid that by changing the results to 2-2 for all the results of the teams that have left the League has upset the principle upon which the database operates. We have now reversed all the incorrect handicap changes and the system should now operate as normal.

LINDLEY WMC A & B

At the League meeting on the 11 March 2019 a decision was taken that the above teams be expelled from the League with immediate effect

Would all teams in Division 4 & 5 take note that from the 14/03/2019, the matches against the Lindley teams will be a BYE.

The decision was based on a number of factors, failure to attempt to rearrange long outstanding fixtures, the number of outstanding fines for late results and the lack of interest shown by failing to attend meetings left the League with no other option.

Payments

Please be aware that the PayPal facility has been removed from this website. This is because of several issues, not least of which is the minimal use of it.

If you need to pay anything to the HBSA this can be done by internet banking, or by cheque.
To pay by cheque please make the cheque payable to HBSA, and write your club's name on the back along with the reason for payment. Send the cheque to the competitions secretary, league secretary, or treasurer.
To pay by internet banking the details you need are as follows:

Bank:            Barclays
Account:       HBSA
Sort Code:    20-43-04
Account No. 10523232
Reference
Use your own club's name

When a payment is made please inform the competitions secretary, the league secretary, or the treasurer for the purpose of keeping the records up to date.)

Just a reminder that result cards/sheets are available from the website and should be completed by both captains, granted that you don't need them in 95% of cases, however, the rules state that breaks need both captains' signatures to verify that the break was recorded and you need a result card in the event of a disagreement or wrong handicap being recorded/played off.

Vets Age Qualification

All players must be aged 60 or over before they can play. If a player's 60th birthday occurs during the season, he/she cannot play before his/her 60th birthday.

Submitting and changing results

There have been several instances of teams not being able to submit results because the member that enters results is unavailable. THIS CAN BE DONE BY SOMEONE ELSE. Team logins can have several registrations to a team (as opposed to club logins). Provided you have an email address that you can use, go to the team login page and click Register, then follow on screen instructions.

There have also been a few instances where the entered
result contains a mistake. THIS CAN BE CORRECTED by logging in and going to the result card page in exactly the same way as the result was originally submitted. When the match date is selected you will see the form completed with the information originally entered. Then change and data that is wrong, click 'Check your results' card, then click 'Send the results to HBSA'.

Contacting opponents in competitions

This is easily possible using the web site. Navigate to Competitions >> The Draw, results, dates etc. Then select the competition you want to check. Then locate the opponent you are drawn against: move the mouse pointer to the opponent, or touch the opponent if you are using a touch screen: that will bring up a small box with your opponent's email and/or phone number.

Email address changes

If you have changed your email address we can easily change all instances of it on our system. Simply use the Contact Us Page and supply us with the old email address and the new email address and we will change all instances from the old to the new. This includes team and club registrations.

HELP needed on our website:

We are at risk: should our web site technician become ill or unavailable for any reason our website could stagnate.

Therefore we are still looking for an additional (voluntary) member to work with our web technician and help with the web site maintenance and development.  The current technician is happy to act as a mentor to gradually hand over the reins.  This is a superb opportunity for someone to develop and extend his or her IT skills.  He or she could learn how to develop windows based computer web applications that use a database.
